Thank you everyone for humoring (and hopefully at least mildly enjoying) our week of blog anniversary posts last week! If you made it through the whole week, you know it culminated with us celebrating our 300th (!) post, and then asking you to fill out a quick survey so we could learn more about you.
It was fun to look through the responses, and we thought we owed it to you to share back what we learned (we did the same after our 2016 reader survey…ignore that it was the same post where Naomi shared the plan for making over her bedroom, which is still ongoing). So here’s what you told us:
The majority of you (about 60%) have been reading Plaster & Disaster for about a year. Another 30% have been with us two years, since the very beginning (and may or may not be related to us). It’s awesome to know we have such amazingly devoted readers who haven’t gotten sick of us! Thank you! But of course we’re always looking to wow new audiences with our wit and talent, so if you have friends whose lives need improving please spread the word to them about this incredible blog.
Just assure them that we get funnier over time (like an acquired taste) and don’t show them this picture until they’ve been reading for at least 3 months:
We were really interested in what you most enjoy reading on our blog, and were thrilled that your favorite posts by far are our long term renovations. That’s probably because anyone who doesn’t like those posts stopped reading a long time ago…. But it was helpful to hear that almost 20% of you also really like the projects you can do yourself. We’re also glad that at least some of you think we’re funny and like our snarky posts. Because we think we’re really funny.
The Tiny Bloggers had their feelings a tiny bit hurt (HA!) by only getting 3.5% of the vote, but we assured them that we were desperate for content and wouldn’t stop featuring them. Also we will keep posting about politics and issues we believe in even though those aren’t the most popular. Sorry. We just have so many feelings, and they’re not all about decorating.
Other findings include:
- 75% of you didn’t notice or don’t care about the change we made to our posting frequency this fall. The other 25% of did notice and care, and for you we keep throwing in occasional Friday posts like this one! (Although, to be fair, we don’t know whether you care in a “I want you to still post on Friday” or a “I deeply care about your wellbeing and work-blog-life balance and stand in solidarity with the choice that you made” sort of way.)
- For 9% of you, Plaster & Disaster is the only blog you read (hi relatives); the other 91% of you have eclectic reading tastes that we loved learning about. Some other favorite blogs of yours include: Manhattan Nest (one of our faves too), Young House Love, and The Bloggess. But there were so many good ones mentioned, we should do (and will do) an entire post just listing them out in case you’re interested in some new blogs to follow (just don’t forget about us!).
- 60% of you are on board with willfully misunderstanding Pantone’s choice of “greenery” for color of the year, and plan to turn your homes in a jungle in order to avoid having to actually use that color on your walls. 25% of you enjoyed Naomi’s joke about vomit, thus proving our readers have excellent and mature tastes.
We really appreciate all the positive thoughts and helpful feedback you shared on our posts and in the survey last week, and we’re excited for another year ahead! Thank you for reading!
