Remember When We Had Time For Crafts?

We’ll admit it: life has been busier than ever for both of us, and that means that we’ve been focused on keeping our heads above water (and keeping water from consuming our kitchens and basements), and not so much on other things we like to do with “free time” like make whimsical crafts (both real and satirical) and play with dollhouses (just satirical).

But sometimes in the midst of chaos and massive renovations, it’s nice to see small, fun, colorful, adorable projects photographed against perfectly white backgrounds. So today we wanted to look back on some of our favorite craft projects to-date, reminisce about what it was like to spend a Sunday afternoon crafting instead of installing a dishwasher or sending work emails, and dream of the magical someday future when we will return to crafting once more.

So without further ado, let’s look at some pretty pictures.

One of the first craft projects we ever shared on Plaster & Disaster was Naomi’s graphic planters, which she made out of geometric bowls she found at a thrift store.

With a small craft brush and white paint, she turned these bowls into adorable little planters in no time flat.

Of course not to be left off the “put triangles on things” bandwagon, Sage made some inexpensive geometric art using vinyl adhesive (an idea she totally stole from Naomi, who is obviously the creative genius between the two of us).

Tip: vinyl adhesive lets you get such clean lines without painters tape.

Then there was the time Naomi became obsessed with making things out of cement. Like diamond push pins:

And adorable pacman magnets:

And bud vases:

And colorful knobs:

If we were ever trying to get a book deal (we’re not, who has time for that?), we should probably focus it exclusively on cement projects and see what else Naomi’s imagination cooks up.

While Naomi was off making all the things out of cement, Sage was experimenting with new ways to prove her love for turquoise to the world, like via her phone case.

It would be easy to swap it out for another color, but why would you ever want to do that?

And of course no craft roundup is complete without a yarn project or tapestry. Naomi killed two birds with one stone with her circular yarn wall hanging:

It’s giant and amazing.

But of course it wouldn’t be Plaster & Disaster if we didn’t include our absolute favorite craft projects: the ones that draw inspiration from across the blogsphere. Like our midcentury modern pumpkin with Anthropologie knob:

Proof that there’s absolutely nothing that doesn’t look better when perched atop mid-century legs.

And our shabby chic cork chandelier celebrating the Pantone colors of the year, Rose Quarts and Serenity:

We’re so glad we were able to partner with our friends at Pantone on this chic and not-a-fire-hazard chandelier!
