It’s here at last, our two-year blog anniversary celebration! We officially hit the two-year mark last Thursday, and this week we’re so excited about celebrating ourselves and how amazing we are that we have a post for you every single day (yes, five posts). We’ve got projects (of both the serious and snarky variety), we’ve got some reflecting, we’ve got denial about what’s happening this Friday, and we’ve got questions for you — all to come later this week. But today: we’ve got photos.
When we launched this blog, we needed to take a photo of the two of us together because we had only known each other for a few weeks and we didn’t have any existing photos to use (more here on why we threw caution to the wind and started a business as total strangers). So we proceeded to have the most uncomfortable photoshoot ever, in which Brad and Sam took turns taking photos of us (which was the first time Sage met Brad, Naomi met Sam, and Sam met Brad). It was terrible and not surprisingly it resulted in some deeply awkward photos.
Fortunately we also got one shot that was usable (with some heavy editing) as the joint photo you know now and love so well from our homepage:
But we knew that we wanted to get a new photo someday, and our two-year anniversary seemed like a good time to do it — because we’re a lot more comfortable together now (once you do a reality TV show with someone, normal boundaries are gone), but also because Sage now has a tripod and remote for her camera…so we can take our own photos and not have Brad and Sam staring at us while we try to look photogenic.
So to kick off this blog anniversary week, we thought we’d share our new profile pic with you:
We love how it turned out! It’s so us and so unique.
Okay, maybe not *so* unique. It might look familiar.
We just couldn’t help but try to prove we’re real bloggers by emulating the bloggeriest bloggers that ever blogged. Naomi wouldn’t let Sage give her bangs, but otherwise we think we nailed it.
And even though we know each other much better now, it was still pretty alarming to have our faces so close together.
Don’t worry, we managed to snap a lot of other really great and totally serious photos, which we then applied a bunch of filters to like real bloggers do.
Though Naomi did try to slowly edge Sage out of the frame at one point…
We also had “fun” with some mandatory blogger props.
Plus the raccoon pillow Sage gave Naomi needed to make an appearance, even though we know it dates the photo (because everyone knows raccoons are so 2016).
We’re sure there’s at least one keeper in there that will get us through another two years, and hopefully we’ve renewed our blogger credentials by kicking off this blog anniversary celebration with this inspiring photoshoot. Please come back tomorrow, we promise we’ll get back to what we do best: being behind the camera.

Happy Blog Anniversary! Best wishes on your continued success. You two are so hysterical. I love when you do your humor posts, it is definitely my kind of humor! Love the pics!
Naomi says
Thank you Joan! Glad to hear that someone out there gets us!
Lynn G says
looks like a fun photo shoot . Happy Anniversary !!
Naomi says
Thanks, Lynn – it was fun and also extremely uncomfortable. 🙂
Bonnie says
Crazy! A good LOL start to a Monday! I thought all of your pix were good — well, most of them.
Happy Blogoversary!
I’ve been hearing about A Beautiful Mess — while reading your blog — but don’t think I’d ever visited before today. I signed up for posts.
Naomi says
Glad we could help Bonnie! Thanks for reading us and commenting – we love hearing from you!
Hope you enjoy – it will be a lot of posts coming your way! They create a lot of content as they work on it full time and have staff, a bit more like a mini-magazine than our “operation.”

Actually like your imitation of their photo better than theirs…but was a little weirded out by the hand on Naomi’s hair, thinking it was Sage’s hand, til seeing the later photo & realizing it was Naomi touching her own hair….hmmm…still weird.
Congrats on keeping it going, you’re amazing!
Naomi says
Yes, still very weird! It took us a long time to puzzle that out from the original photo. I couldn’t figure out which hand to use…
Lee says
You still had your faces further away from each other than they did! How did you get afraid of physical closeness?
I think its genetic.
Naomi says
Yes, probably 🙂 Hi Mom!
Carol says
Mostly I follow you for your humor as opposed to your DIY skills!!!!
Naomi says
Great to hear Carol! You have your priorities straight, clearly.
Wendy says
Happy anniversary!!🎊👏🏻😉👍I love your blog! Inspired and full of fun. There some great advice too!
Sage says
Thanks Wendy! We try to strike that balance between “fun” and “trustworthy” 🙂
Mary Anne in Kentucky says
Happy anniversary, to you, and to all of us who enjoy the blog.
