Today we’re here to share a bittersweet blog update, which is that this will be our last post at Plaster & Disaster for the foreseeable future. The “bitter” part is pretty obvious: we dreamed up this blog together about four years ago, and it’s brought us a lot of joy to collaborate on it and share it with you. We hope that whether you’ve read 1 post, all 456 we’ve ever written, or somewhere in between, it’s brought you joy too.
There’s the “sweet” part, too, though, which is that our lives have changed a lot in those four years, and they’ve filled out in ways that don’t leave us the time to do this blog the way we’d want to into the future. It’s a pretty time-consuming hobby when you factor in doing and photographing the projects, editing/formatting/uploading the photos, writing the posts, and all the back-end tech elements that go into managing a website. While we’re sad to end what has been a big part of our lives, we’re excited for all the other things that will have more space, energy, and time from us. (If that sounds cryptic like maybe we’re starting a TV show or something, it’s nothing that fantastical — we mean things like other hobbies, work, dogs, quality time with growing families, spending time together that doesn’t involve making dollhouse furniture, actually doing DIY projects rather than photographing and writing about them, etc.)
We can’t say thank you enough for your loyal readership and engagement — without you, we’d just have been two people who spent way too much time publishing our personal thoughts, inside jokes, and renovation projects to the internet for no discernible reason. We will miss sharing all the DIY happenings in our lives with you, but we know you’ll soldier on.
We may stop in here now and again with quick updates or to share particularly exciting DIY projects if the mood strikes us. Since it won’t make sense for you to check here regularly, if you do want to get these please head to the sidebar and enter your email so any new posts are sent to you if you want them. And if life changes down the road (doesn’t it always?) and we decide to pick this back up, we promise you’ll be the first to know!
In the meantime, here are some awkward photos to remember us by:

Bittersweet indeed. I’m grateful for all the creative ideas and humor, and so much of yourselves, that you’ve shared through this blog. I’ll miss it! But when new doors will open. Wishing you both the joy of new beginnings, much love and new creative outlets!!
Sage says
Thank you, and thank you for your many years of encouragement!
Anna International says
Sad to read this, but absolutely understand that life has it’s seasons, particularly as my own blog hasn’t been updated for about 5 months now! Eep. Better get writing. So many ideas, just no time!
Signing up for emails to get anything you do write, but I wish you both all the happiness in your new adventures (and the tiny bloggers too!) x
Sage says
Thanks Anna, we’ve really appreciated all your support and comments over the years! We look forward to continuing to follow along with your blog, whenever the time is right for you to keep writing (no pressure!).
Denise says
You two will be missed but a huge THANK YOU for the heads up! Nothing worse than “friends” disappearing without a word as I go to the dark side and fear the worst. You’ve made me laugh as well as shed a tear but isn’t that what friends do? Ok, since I am so nontechnical, if I’ve already subscribed to you am I good to go? Need to hear the end to the refrigerator saga/kitchen reno and baby update – not necessarily in that particular order. Best of luck and good wishes to both of you.
Sage says
Thanks Denise, we really appreciate your kind words! We definitely didn’t want to just disappear one day, as we’ve experienced that with a lot of blogs we’ve loved as well (and my head always goes to the worst, too!). If you’re already subscribed to our newsletter, then you’re all set to get anything we post in the future!
Deb says
Wishing you both success with your future DIY
including growing a family.
I definitely will want to know if that refrigerator
situation ever got solved!!!
I will miss the tiny bloggers and the Craigslist
“Treasures” we got to vote on.
But most of all I will miss you both with your honesty and your great sense of humor. You don’t have to
take any pictures to just pop in and say Hi every so often.
Sage says
Thanks Deb, we really appreciate all your support and engagement!
Mary Anne in Kentucky says
I’ll miss you, and I must know the end of the refrigerator saga!
It’s been fun, and it seems much shorter than four years.
Sage says
Thanks Mary Anne!
Penny says
I, too, will miss you both and your adventures. Wishing you well with your new endeavors.
If you get the chance, let us know about the frig. Thanks.
Sage says
Thanks Penny!

Bittersweet, yes, but not entirely unexpected. I’ve had many favorite blogs through the years and they all seem to come to a natural end — the “nicer” ones usually say goodbye (not saying that the ones that just disappear weren’t nice, of course. Things change.)
I like to think of you and your families continuing the good fight — DIYing, of course, and some other things you’ve alluded to from time to time.
Sage says
Thanks Bonnie, having you as a reader and commenter all these years has meant a great deal!
Brad says
Now how am I ever going to find out what your plans are for my house?
Sage says
Nice try, I know how collaborative Naomi is with the house planning 🙂 Now Sam, on the other hand, will be even more in the dark than usual…..
Stephanie G. says
Bummer ladies. Thanks for all your wit and inspiration these last couple years!

Thanks Stephanie and Sandy!
Joan says
I will really miss you ladies as you are very interesting and funny. Your stories and DIY’s have brought much delight to someone who is all thumbs! I wish you both the best as you travel new roads. May your journeys continue to enrich you, bring you love, joy and much humor.
I, like others, would love to hear how the refrigerator saga ends. Good luck Naomi on your writing, hope to see you listed on Goodreads someday! Sage have an amazing journey adding to your family and if you wish let us know about the arrival of……..?
Cheers to you!
Sage says
Thanks Joan, your kind words mean a lot!
Pam says
Wishing you both all the best in your life journeys . I’ll miss all the fun blogs especially the Craig’s list treasures. I definitely would like to know how the fridge saga ends. Enjoy the extra time that not posting, taking photos and blogging. Just know that you both put smiles on a lot peoples faces 🙂
Sage says
Thanks Pam! We really appreciate hearing that.
Shadlyn Wolfe says
Thank you so much for all that you shared! You were one of my favorite blogs, and I’ll definitely leave you in my RSS in case you drop back in once in a while…but I understand if you don’t. Enjoy your lives, and thank you for good times, and you will be missed!
Sage says
Thank you! That means a lot to hear.
Kara says
Awwww sad to see you guys go! Your writing always made me laugh. I know there are many happy moments ahead as real human beings off the Internet, so enjoy and goddess bless!
Sage says
Thanks Kara, we really appreciate that!
Vanessa says
Thanks you two for the hard work that went into having an online presence. I always prefer the normal, the hardworking, the good writing over the whitewashed photos that abound out in blogland. Good luck with everything, take it easy on yourselves!
Sage says
Thanks Vanessa! I seriously think one of these days we’ll just be looking at straight up pure white photos — how much more over-exposed can things get before they start becoming invisible? 🙂
Ananda says
Definitely bittersweet news but thank you for saying goodbye! Yours is one of the blogs that I most look forward to catching up on each week and I have been inspired by your DIYs through the years, so thank you for that! I wish you both the best and continued success in everything that you do! Take care!
Sage says
Thank you, that means a lot! We appreciate your many years of readership.
Molly says
Truly sad to read this update! But I wish you both the very, very best. I loved the DIY and your humor, but most of all I loved feeling a connection with such compassionate and passionate people. In a time that’s felt so helpless and hopeless in the world for the last few years, this blog has been a bright spot.
Sage says
Thanks Molly, that means a great deal. That connection is one of the things we’ve loved — and will miss — most about blogging.
Mary says
Ah, this is sad, but it makes good sense. Reading your down-to-earth, funny posts has been a treat. I especially enjoyed the Tiny Bloggers series and the Craigslist surveys. It was both instructive and fun to see your personal home projects evolve. As a longtime reader of home design blogs, I admired your (non-mean-spirited) parody of how breathless and precious home design blogs can become. You’ve inspired me with your groundedbess, resourcefulness, and real-ness — not to mention your openness/integrity about your principles and your dreams. THANK YOU for all you shared with us and best of luck!
Sage says
Thanks Mary, we’re so glad you got and appreciated our sense of humor…we know it’s not for everyone 🙂
Susan says
I wanted to add my enormous thanks to you as well! Your projects, writing and tone were always refreshing, real and inspiring! My daughter and I copied your fabric idea for our stairs (and it actually worked!) and I’m *so* close to folloiwng your footsteps on replacing our basement VAT with the same ones you used. Likewise, I’ve read your landscaping posts carefully to mimic some of your plantings. Thank you again for sharing your time, talent and wit and all the best for the “sweet” parts of your news.
Sage says
Thank you Susan, that means a ton! I hope we haven’t led you too much astray over the years 🙂 If it helps, I’m still loving our new basement floor about 5 months in!
Stacey W says
Ayyy! Not how I wanted to come home from vacation!
But I totally get it, it takes a LOT of time to edit photos and put a post together. I have really enjoyed your blog quite a bit over the years and will miss it a lot. and PLEASE let us know how the refrigerator turns out! Good luck with everything you do!
Lynne says
You will be missed!
Jess Z says
I’ll miss you guys! I wish you all the best!

Bittersweet is the right word. Sad to hear this, but wish you the best on your journey from now on.
