Usually we try to be really honest with you guys and share all the gritty details along the way — it’s kind of our whole thing. But the truth is, we’ve been keeping a bit of a secret for a little while now. We just really didn’t want to jinx anything, and were worried it was going to fall through. Now that the transaction has finally gone through, though, we’re so relieved to be able to share some exciting (and also terrifying) news!
We jumped into blogging having known each other only a few months (as we talked about during our blog anniversary celebration in January), and fortunately it turns out we get along really well. Phew. And while we obviously both spend a lot of time working on our own homes, it’s always so much fun when we’re able to work on things together (like our amazing plastic cactus table…no, we will never stop talking about it).
Pretty much since Day 1 we’ve dreamed about taking on something bigger together, but over the past few months we started talking about it more seriously. And then talking turned into looking at house listings online…. And then before we knew it, looking turned into buying! Yup.
You may be thinking: what is this hideous death trap? Well, as of March 26th, it became our hideous death trap. Our hideous deathtrap with about 6 different kinds of wallpaper. But trust us, there is so much potential here!
We know these photos are terrible — we’re planning a much more extensive post about this on Wednesday, so we wanted to be super cruel and only show a few (dark and blurry) teasers for now.
As it’s abundantly clear, this is a major fixer upper. Like, almost a gut job. And yes, Sage is in the middle of a renovation, and Naomi is still working on her house (we know you haven’t forgotten about her garage). The timing is not exactly ideal. But the market in Boston moves so quickly that once you start looking, even casually, that can turn into a purchase pretty quickly. On Wednesday we’ll post more about how this all went down, but in the meantime it feels good to finally share this news with you guys! Here’s to new adventures!

Congratulations! This will test your friendship and working relationship. Is it located near your homes?

Oh, boy! Now that Daniel has nearly stopped posting about this three (3!) house renovations on Manhattan Nest, I really NEED a renovation fix, the gnarlier the better.
I’m already afraid of that square window with no view in the first photograph, and are those stairs actually anchored to a wall? They don’t look like it!
Be careful! Have fun! Post often and in depth! (smiley face)

I can’t wait to see what all you do. I’m living in a 200 year old farmhouse that all of the rooms were painted green. Changes are in the making at my place too but slowly do to funds. I love country and this old house is definitely country and has been in the family for over five generations!
Good luck with you fixer-upper and can’t wait to see the turn around!!

I have some experience with building furniture for this style of house, so if you two find yourself needing help with this once you are done with the gutting and refinishing (and Bonnie’s right, those stairs do look like they will need immediate attention), let me know.

Great!! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

I think your stairs are probably safe and someone just removed the stair skirts…the support underneath should be a 2″ x 12″ and in the days it was built, was probably wider than today’s net 1-1/2″ – just sayin’. If there is not adequate support below -then you might have a problem. To find out, just pull one of the riser boards and look.
That said, CONGRATULATIONS! I’m so envious! I’ve been looking for my first project house/renovation/resale (not a flip) for quite some time and haven’t found the right project, or a budget I can work with yet. You girls have courage in a big way! So exciting!
Again, Congrats! Can’t wait to see what you do~

Congrats! It seems like many bloggers start in one area & wind up in a different area due to their hard work & blog success. This new adventure & journey could lead to great things for you both! You could become the next Fixer Uppers!!
