This is part of our Tiny House, Tiny Bloggers series, in which we turn over Plaster & Disaster to some VERY tiny bloggers to tell their own story of transforming an ugly, old (doll)house into a fresh and modern (doll)home. Follow it from the beginning here.

Tiny bloggers here! Last week we shared progress on the modern sofa we’re making as the first step in our living room makeover:
We also asked for your help in picking what style legs to go with to finish off the frame, and you delivered! As a refresher, we put forward four options:
And with almost 50% of the vote, the winner is….
Perpendicular supports!
We were so torn, so thank you for helping us! We took your advice, and it was super easy — we just used some thin pieces of wood that we spray painted with oil rubbed bronze (love us some ORB!) and glued them onto the bottom of the frame.
Of course, no sofa is complete without cushions. First, we had to pick the fabric to use. We brought a few small swatches into the living room to see what we liked best:
We have a vision of a bright space with lots of pops of color for this room and worried that the navy would be too much, so we decided to go with the light gray linen.
We really wanted to get crisp upholstery for this modern couch, but we’re duds with a sewing machine and weren’t up for taking on such a giant (yet tiny…) sewing project. Fortunately we realized that there was a perfect way to get beautiful cushions without all the trouble: wooden blocks with fabric stapled around them!
We started by cutting pieces of wood for the bottom, back, and side cushions:
Then we stapled our fabric around each cushion.
And we were left with some lovely and crisp cushions!
Granted it doesn’t make for the most comfortable couch…
But that’s not what decor is about. It looks amazing, and that’s all that matters!
Here are a few shots of the finished piece in our pristine photo-taking room:
And here it is in our living room! (Ignore the windows, they need to be scraped….)
We are so excited with how it turned out, and more motivated than ever to keep the room makeover going! And thank you for your advice about the legs, we think they’re perfect!
