Welcome to a new feature on Plaster & Disaster – Friday Favorite Fun Time!
JUST KIDDING DON’T LEAVE. This isn’t a new feature, because it would be a totally dumb new feature. Also, I recognize that I can’t make up a new feature just because I can’t get my adult self together to have a project to post about.
However, because I can’t get my adult self together to have a project to post about, today I am going to channel my inner child to share some examples of dinosaurs used tastefully in decor.
Why? Other than the obvious (dinosaurs are cool), I love looking at spaces that use whimsical elements in a way that still reads mature and under control. I’ve definitely seen some great and very tastefully done dinosaur-themed kids rooms, but that is not the focus of today. Today I am hoping to make the case that liking awesome things like dinosaurs is NOT antithetical to good, adult design.
The evidence:
1. DIY Dinosaur Toilet Paper Holder from The Chic Home: I love the blue, but I could also see it in white or gold – or even rose gold if it were a particularly trendy dinosaur.
2. DIY Jurassic Corn Cob Holders from Handmade Charlotte
3. Dinosaur Planter from Costal Moss on Etsy (affiliate link – read our policies): There are a ton of dinosaur planters out there, but this one is my favorite. It would look great on a white window sill. (Incidentally, I have white window sills…)
4. Dinosaur Faux Taxidermy from ModCloth: I think the world is taking faux taxidermy a little bit too far. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want this dinosaur head at the top of my stairs.
5. Days of Fold Ornament from ModCloth
6. Dinorsaur Book Ends on Brick and Mortar
7. Dinosaur and Succulent Wedding on Today Is: I am not totally sure what this says, but I do know that it is totally backing up my point.
Most of my favorite spaces have at least few whimsical or kitschy pieces thrown in (you know, like a table made out of a plastic cactus…). It makes it look like a real person lives there.
So what do you think? Would you ever use decorative dinosaurs in your home?
