It seems like a year ago that I installed shelves in my bedroom! (Maybe that’s because it was practically a year ago. Awkward.)
I love them but I was been waiting to properly style/decorate them until I finished up more in that room. I’m nearly there now so it is time to pay them some attention!
Of course, I haven’t been completely ignoring them for the last several months. As I’ve moved things around in the room and elsewhere in the house, I’ve slowly moved items in there and experimented with how they should look.
On blogs, we usually will just share the end result of the styling process, so I thought it would be fun to show how they’ve changed over time. While there are a lot of styling posts about how to arrange shelves when working from a set of props, there isn’t a lot about the process that I usually follow in real life – accumulating stuff that has meaning and/or gets kicked out of other rooms and needs a place to live.
I started with just a few pieces that I knew I’d like to have in there if I could make it work. This was back in May.
Over time, I added in a plant and a few other things.
Then, the plant was discovered to have bugs, and I was very pleased it had isolated from all of my others! It was “sent to a farm upstate where it could run and play with the other plants” and I kept moving things around. I even (temporarily) added a creepy piece of art that I love, but the Advisory Council (A.K.A. Brad) absolutely hates.
Then, I ran out of space for books on my other shelves, so I finally got around to bringing some in here. Now, I think they’re done!
Of course things will keep moving around over time (these things never remain static) but they’re full of stuff now and I htink they look pretty nice, so I’m going to stop considering them “in progress.”
There are a lot of meaningful things here – books I’ve loved, a gift my brother gave me, the money I made from selling a story for the first time, etc. It is fun to look at it every day when I wake up!
Hopefully it was fun to see the long-term process here! I’m excited to be nearly done in this room!
