Back when we did our annual reader survey for our blog-anniversary, we asked you all what other blogs you read. Mostly, we wanted to make sure that you actually have good taste in blogs. If you all read only terrible blogs and Plaster & Disaster, what does that say about us? However, when we looked at the list we realized two things: First, you all have pretty good taste in blogs! Let the self-congratulatory back-patting ensue. Second, you sourced a great list of reading material that would probably be worth sharing.
Hence, today we’re sharing back some of the top DIY/decorating blogs that you, our readers, like to read. We know that Plaster & Disaster is your favorite and will always remain your favorite, but you might enjoy checking these ones out, too 🙂
The New Finds:
These two new (to us, at least) blogs are definitely going to make it on our reading list!
Written by Alison (aka Scoops), this blog is awesome! Alison’s home is an extraordinary mix of bold, eclectic MCM pieces and gorgeous DIYs, sort of like what we aspire to have. She seems to be particularly known for her DIY light fixtures (like this sconce) but she does other awesome projects as well. The tone is accessible and she doesn’t over-write – her posts are short and to the point. She also has great taste and does some really beautiful product and space round-ups. We should probably be friends.
Unfortunately an infrequent poster, but MAN, Sandra gets up to some real, serious projects. This is a heavy DIY home improvement blog with ambitious projects and tool reviews. Pretty much every sentence in one of her posts would be an entire post on our blog (e.g., “I covered the entire ceiling with 36″ wide, FibaFuse reinforcement fabric”). Her projects turn out awesome, and her writing is funny and down-to-earth. We also like her slogan (build it like a girl). If you want to feel like a total DIY-amateur and also learn a whole lot, you should check out this blog!
The Honorable Mentions:
- Making it Lovely – Borderline for the “big names” list, with gorgeous designs in a totally amazing house.
- The Interior Frugalista – More of a shabby-chic style than our taste usually runs, but hilarious, “real-person” writing and some really cool projects and great tips. Check it out!
The Big Names:
Unsurprisingly, many of our readers are readers of DIY blogs in general, and so of course you all read some of the same major/well known blogs as we do. Here are the most frequently mentioned ones. If you don’t know of these guys, we urge you to go and check them out!
- Young House Love
- Manhatten Nest
- Apartment Therapy
- Centsational Girl
- Little Green Notebook
- Emily Henderson
- Door Sixteen
- Yellow Brick Home

There are also a few other big name ones that some of you may read that we’re not going to mention here, because of that whole “if you don’t have something nice to say” thing…
So, clearly, you guys have great taste. Just don’t forget about us while you’re hanging out with all of your new friends!
