Happy Wednesday! Today we’re here to share a bit from a recent trip to one of our favorite places: Brimfield Antique Show. We love Brimfield because we always come across so many amazing, weird, and terrible things (also because it’s where we were discovered as reality TV stars (truth)). If you’re headed to Brimfield yourself (next dates are in July) but sure to check out our tips for how to make the most of your trip, and today we’ll share what we found there a few weeks ago, including letting you play one of our favorite games: “guess the price”!
This year we were shopping with our tiny blogger friends in mind too, which opened up a whole new world of possibilities. For instance, one of the first things we came across was this tiny canon.
Sure we didn’t have an exact spot in mind for it, but who doesn’t need a canon? The question is, how much of a steal was it?
And the answer is: $45! We don’t know what to make of that price. On the one hand, it’s a pretty cool canon. $45 isn’t that steep. On the other hand, it’s a canon. For dolls. $45 kind of feels like $44 more than we’d be willing to pay.
We also came across this entire car dealership for the tiny bloggers, it was very exciting.
But since they don’t really have anywhere to go, we guess they don’t really need a car.
On the other end of the spectrum from “tiny canon,” we came across this “giant fish.”
We can’t even begin to fathom how you put a price on something like this. What do you think the owners of this masterpiece priced it at?
And the correct answer is:
Okay so we admit, no matter how much that fish had cost, we weren’t remotely tempted. This sweet little cabinet, on the other hand, definitely drew our attention:
Wouldn’t it make the most adorable child’s play kitchen? Of course neither of us actually have children, so it would have to be a pretty darn good deal. What do you think it cost?
Unfortunately, $350 is the correct answer. Definitely too steep for us.
And what about the baseball mitts hanging out on the cabinet?
At $95 each, these mitts also weren’t destined to be ours.
There’s something for everyone at Brimfield. For example, if you are someone who loves both tea and the terrible soda, Moxie, you could buy this tea set. Because then instead of agonizing over which of your favorite beverages to honor at any given time, you don’t have to pick. You could drink tea in your Moxie cup or Moxie in your tea cup.
How much does it cost to solve this unique problem?
Truly a steal! But since choosing between tea and Moxie isn’t a problem for us, we decided to pass.
There was also this unique chair, which looked pretty scruffy and strangely bulbous, but had potential for a reupholstery job.
We did consider it, how much do you think it cost?
Well, if you said you wouldn’t pay a cent for that chair, then you are correct! Neither would we…
Okay, what about this sweet dolphin sculpture?
Yes, those prices seem crazy. The good news is that the dolphin was priced at the least crazy of those options, but still….
We didn’t just play “guess the price,” though…we also agonized over some things we wanted to buy. Like this stained glass window for Sage’s kitchen, which unfortunately was too short:
And also these stained glass windows which we both wanted to put in our houses, but couldn’t figure out the right place for them:
And also this adorable piano for the tiny bloggers.
How cute! And also incredibly useful… because this was also a storage piano!
However, they already have a piano, and actually don’t have that much stuff to store, so we didn’t even ask about the price.
And also this chair.
You can probably tell from this photo that Sage brought this home with her. How much do you think it cost?
Answer: Just $40! The only problem is that it has now led to crisis of confidence. Sage originally bought it because she’s taking an upholstery class this summer and thought this would be a good starter piece. The orange vinyl is fun and retro, but orange doesn’t really go with anything in her house.
Oh right, except the guest room. She brought it upstairs to the guest room to store it before the class, and remembered that her guest room colors are green and orange.
Now she’s agonizing over whether to reupholster it so that it’s more flexible in her house, or keep it as-is and fine something else to upholster. What do you think?
We also picked up something for the tiny bloggers, but we haven’t given it to them yet so we don’t want to spoil the surprise. If they like it, we’re sure they’ll tell you about it soon.
As we were getting to the end of the day at Brimfield, we were happy to come across the crew of Flea Market Flip filming Season 10. It was great to say hi to some of the folks we got to know during filming, including Cija, who we’ll always feel a special connection with after we randomly approached her at Brimfield two years ago and gave her our contact info to see if we could audition for the show. We never thought that strategy would actually work!
We had a great time at Brimfield, and it was a relief to be there under significantly less pressure than the last time we were there (which is when we filmed Buy Day for the show).
So how did you do — are you good at guessing flea market prices?
