I am not a fast decorator (understatement of the year). I like to taaaaake myyyy tiiiime with home decisions and be sure that I am getting them right. This is partly because there are too many options out there on the internet, and partly because I just enjoy the process and don’t want it to end. But you can only live so long (i.e., 1.5 years) without throw pillows on the couch before THAT situation gets old.
So I finally settled in for some serious throw pillow shopping. After a couple “close calls” with incongruous color schemes and several high stakes throw pillow meetings with Sage (which Brad declined to attend), I have new pillows!
I had really wanted to buy all of my new pillows from Etsy shops because I love supporting independent designers and small businesses – and I got three out of four.
It began when my mom got me the beautiful Suzani-style pillow cover off of Etsy for my birthday. I love the pattern, the handmade stitching, and that the colors totally echo my house. It is not available any longer (because I got it!) but EasternHomeDecor (affiliate link – read our policies) has great ones with bright colors and lots of detail.
However, I was struggling a bit to find something that would complement it. It is definitely a pillow with a point of view, both in color and pattern. But I didn’t want the others to be just solid colors – I wanted more personality. This pillow from Dot & Bo is what tempted me away from Etsy for one purchase. It is more than I like to spend on a pillow, but it goes so well with the Suzani pattern, while still being cool and fun in its own way.
It is also nice and firm for binge TV show watching. I love it!
I also wanted something with a strong hit of yellow to tie into my doors and the Reinder Oldenburger painting in my gallery wall. I did consider a solid yellow, but fell in love with this guy (affiliate link – read our policies) from the MexFabricSupplies shop.
I think that hit of bright color is just what my stern dark gray couch needed.
However, my red-and-over-sized-paisley chair probably didn’t need any more color or pattern, so that was the perfect place to satisfy my craving for a text-based pillow cover. I picked out this one (affiliate link – read our policies) from michelledwight. I think it is sweet.
The paisley design on the chair is actually off-white, so the natural linen of the cover goes well. I was worried a crisp white (which many of the graphic text pillows are) would stand out in a bad way.
I’m glad I took my time and found something that works for my space. There were so many tempting options that just wouldn’t have gone in my room. For example, if you’re going for a dusty-blue and burnt-orange color scheme, go buy this (in rust) and this (on a crazy good final sale) right now. GO. LET ME LIVE THIS DREAM THROUGH YOU.
Not that I’m unhappy:
So there you have it! I am sure my pillow-buying days are not over – I LOVE the look of couches piled with eclectic pillows – but I think this is a solid start to the collection.
