Two houses. Two couples. ONE WINNER.
Just kidding! Sort of. We do have two houses, and there are two sets of us – Naomi and Brad, and Sage and Sam. But this isn’t a competition. Instead, it’s a collaboration between two friends in Greater Boston with a mutual love of DIY and home improvement and their reluctant incredibly supportive significant others.
This blog is about our adventures as first-time homeowners in fixer-upper houses, without prior experience and with a hefty dose of other responsibilities (like full-time jobs). We talk about our numerous and incredible successes (while relying heavily on hyperbole), but also about the inevitable disasters that happen along the way. And if the house is still standing after we finish a project, we’ll post pictures.

About Sage
I never considered myself a creative person, until one day in my mid-twenties when I found myself inexplicably moved to paint my jewelry armoire. As I watched the brown laminate disappear under primer and paint, I was hooked.
Now I live a double life. By day I work in non-profit management and strategy, by night I’m an avid DIYer and blogger (plus long distance runner, bad TV watcher, and eater of whatever delicious food my husband, Sam, prepares for me). In 2014, my DIY dreams came true when Sam and I moved out of the apartment where my DIY passions first blossomed and into our first house in the inner suburbs of Boston. Now we have our hands full turning this 1950s cape into a home for us and our family (which currently consists of two cats, Owen and Murphy). We have absolutely no idea what we’re doing, but we hope that our triumphs and defeats will be your entertainment and inspiration!

About Naomi
When Brad and I found a 1950s ranch with a large yard and three bedrooms within 20 minutes of our families that we could afford we snatched it right up. Never mind that it had a rotting front porch, a really odd smell, and let’s call it creative electrical choices.
We jumped in on a big renovation (with a great contractor) before we knew how to use a caulking gun or, let’s be honest, how to even properly paint a room. We knocked down some walls, put in some windows, and disposed of that odd smell along with the carpets in favor of new bamboo floors. In between jobs, writing, and board games, we’re still slowly working away on this old home, infusing it with what we love: bright colors, southwestern patterns, and vintage finds.
