Big Dreams, Tiny Mood Boards

Tiny bloggers here! When last we left you, we were learning a lot about perseverance and rising to challenges with our odyssey in wallpaper removal. It was incredibly difficult, but we learned so much about ourselves and we hope we provided some inspiration for you along the way.

Today we’re climbing out of the renovation chaos to remind ourselves about why we’re doing all this hard work: so at the end of this journey, we can have a beautiful home that is totally unique to us and our family! To help keep the long view in mind, we decided it was high time we shared some mood boards with you about how we’re imagining our home when everything finally comes together.

In terms of our creative process, we always start by spending days on Pinterest (which is equivalent to months for non-tiny folks), and from there we typically pull together a mood board to inform our approach to creating a mood board. We always find that if you start making a mood board without really defining your style for it first through a meta mood board, you can easily lose focus. Even though it takes a lot longer, it’s definitely time well spent.

Our mood board mood board allowed us to see that our actual mood board would draw on themes like: cacti, pom poms, cacti wrapped in pom poms, word art, pink, and mid-century legs. From there we could create our next mood board capturing the aesthetic and ideas we hope to recreate in our house:

* Of course we’ll have to find a way to incorporate cacti into our home! You probably remember Naomi’s and Sage’s cactus table, but unless you live under a rock you know that they’re now very popular with actual trendsetters and so we certainly don’t want to be left out.

* In terms of colors and patterns, we see a lot of turquoise, chevron, rose gold, pink, marble, and sheepskin (starting with our DIY sheepskin stool!).

* We’re jonesing for a way to use some of the palm leaf wallpaper we took down from what will be Aiden’s room — botanicals are so hot right now! We love the idea of incorporating it into a furniture makeover somehow. We see an IKEA hack in our future!

* A gallery wall for personalized art is a no-brainer, and even better if we can pair it with a one-of-a-kind mid-century dresser for a more eclectic look.

* Isn’t the pink globe so cute? Call us derivative, but we just love maps and globes. With the internet Aiden and Madison won’t actually need a real globe for any reason, but why not use one as a canvass for some sweet word art?

* Speaking of word art, we love the idea of some big marquee-style word art in the kitchen. How would you know to “eat” if not for a sign telling you to? And of course a vintage laundry sign for the laundry room (do we have a laundry room?) would be so cute.

* I love everything about the kitchen with the yellow chairs, plus it’s the first image that comes up when you search “pop of color” in pinterest so what more could you need?

So that’s a little bit about our creative process and the aesthetic we see for our home! We feel like it will be so unique and personal when it’s done. What do you think?

Oh also, we should mention that we’re working on a really tiny budget (we’re just ordinary people, after all!), so we will definitely have to be creative with DIYing and being thrifty. We also hope we’ll have the opportunity to partner with some great companies to make this dream a reality and introduce our readers to some wonderful brands in the meantime!
